This weekend may be the last to get ready for winter. So what do you do?
If you live in the north, your fuel bill ran approx. $977 last year and this
next year, it will go up to approx. $1182. A huge jump at a rate of 20%.
So what can you do to reduce this?
You can change out the filter in the furnace. Rule of thumb is to change it
out every 3 months. If you have a contract for your furnace, call and make an (more…)

I have doing some research on how to get off the grid. After hurricane Ike’s
tremendous impact not only on the coast but also how far it went throughout
the U.S., I needed to find something that I could do rather cheaply.
I found that Off the Grid Living has all the information you will need to make
the change from being married to your utility company to financial and personal
freedom.
Their promise is that you can build a 1000 watt wind generator with no special
tools and no experience in about 2 weekends for under $100. So far there have
been hundreds of families who have duplicated their success. (more…)

Back on the Map!
Ron Shank and Levi Garrett described how scared they were with the weather
that had the tornado whistle blowing. Everyone hit the bunkers and waited
for the storm to pass. Ron’s GM Dealership had some hail damage. The new
church suffered some water damage.
City Council meet to get BNIM’s Master plan approved and the presentation is made.
Council approves the plan with a 5-0 vote. (more…)

Well folks, here comes hurricane Ike. His path is predicted to hit between
Galveston and Corpus Christi. Should that be the case, I am going to be hit
pretty hard as I will be on the dirty side of the storm. As of tonight, they
are predicting anywhere from 30 – 60 mph sustained winds, possible tornados,
drenching rains of 6 – 8 inches. So, it is going to be a rock n roll weekend.
I am battening down the hatches again this week. We just had a heck of a storm
day before yesterday, got 2 inches of rain in 1 hour, lots of wind along with
ground lightening and thunder that would rip your ears off. My parents across
the pasture, lost their garage roof. If they did not have this huge oak tree
in front of their back door, they would of had all of that metal, through the
back of the house. So, we are in the process of trying to figure out what to
do with the metal since Ike is on his way. The sides, the door and the rafters
are the only thing left of that garage. Not sure tarping the garage will even
last with the winds that are predicted to hit us. (more…)
