EPA’s Plug-In To eCycling program is challenging electronics retailers and television manufacturers to increase collection and responsible recycling of discarded TVs.
As consumers continue to upgrade technologies — transitioning from analog to digital technology and cathode ray tube (CRT) to flat panel televisions — they need more convenient and predictable opportunities to safely manage their old TVs. Recycling TVs helps to conserve natural resources and reduce energy use, greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants related to extraction and processing of virgin materials. (more…)

(Silver Spring, Md.) – Planet Green, Discovery Communications’ multiplatform environmental initiative and leading non-profit environmental organization the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) today announced plans to join forces on a broad range of activities and initiatives including grassroots community outreach, public affairs and content creation.

The U.S. Department of Energy says you are paying about $100.00 a year for nothing and the EPA estimates that this nothing consumes $4 billion worth of power each year. Equivalent to the power generated by 12 power plants.
This energy Black Hole is the total of all those appliances that still draw power even when the power buttons are switched “off”. The average house hold has between 20-25 of these appliances that have electronic controls or smart features that still pull energy while “playing possum.” (more…)

AFter searching and searching for waste disposal sites in Texas, I have come up pretty
much empty as far as actual sites go. They will tell you what items are considered
hazardous household waste. These items are listed below.
* Fluorescent light bulbs (including compact fluorescent light bulbs)
* Oil-based paints
* Some anti-mildew and exterior latex paints
* Some wood stains
* Fuels (gasoline, propane, diesel)
* Corrosive cleaners (such as lye-based oven cleaners) (more…)

I do not know about you, but here in East Texas, they have been advertising about
the transition to digital signal for your TV in February, 2009.
So your analog TV will not receive a signal from your local channels with an
antenna. You will have to purchase a digital converter for $50.00 in order (more…)
