In Reverse Order – (Cause it’s easier to swallow this way.) I am sure there is more but below is
my list.
—— The UGLY :
Caribbean Monk Seal – Now Extinct
Humans hunting the docile creatures for research, food and blubber left the population
unsustainable, say biologists who warn that Hawaiian and Mediterranean monk seals could
be the next to go.
Polar Bears Resort To Cannibalism As Arctic Ice Shrinks
Scientists have noticed increasing reports of starving Arctic polar bears attacking
and feeding on one another in recent years. Less than 30 years ago, there would still (more…)

It’s become almost a reflex to bash aviation’s role in climate change. Passenger
planes are big, they emit stuff into the atmosphere, so they must be bad. It’s
true, but it’s not quite that simple.
Last week, climate and atmospheric scientists from the US and Europe presented
research to a group of aviation types gathered at the Royal Society of London.
Much of their focus was on nitrogen oxide (NOx), and what they found is that
simply dismissing NOx as just another nasty greenhouse gas is not only bad
science, but could also be unwise policy. (more…)

There is an article that follows the process it takes to turn a bottle into
fabric, from the chipped plastic bits that resemble snow cone filling to the
fiber filaments that “feel eerily like human hair gone unwashed for so long
that it’s soft with grease.” There’s also some great photos, and surprising
facts like it takes just 10 plastic bottles to make a pound of fiber. (more…)

One year after the tornado
Farrell Allison’s house is being invaded by CBS news. Greensburg is getting
ready for the 1 year anniversary. They are going to break ground on the business
incubator, a memorial service for those that died due to the tornado, and
re-dedicate the new water tower. The seniors will be graduating, and the
President will be in town.
Dealing with the news media gives them exposure to hopefully extra monies to (more…)

U.N. scientist say we only have 10 years to mend our ways, because if we do
not clean up our act, mother nature has some nasty surprises:
Storms – insured losses from weather events have increased 15 fold in the
last 30 years.
Floods – U.N. scientists predict 200 million climate refugees in the next
40 years.
Drought – Land stricken by severe drought has doubled in 30 years. (more…)

Go to earth911.org to find a recycling site near you. Just type in what you
want to recycle or hit ‘more’ and select from the list, add your zip, city,
or state and hit ‘go’. Now don’t expect to find many places that recycle CFLs.
Because of the mercury worries involved with these bulbs, those that do will
normally only accept spent CFLs from their area residents.
There are numerous places on the internet that will ship you a kit to hold
your spent fluorescent and/or HIDs (high intensity discharge lamps), etc.
Then when full you ship back via a ground carrier like FedEX (prepaid). The (more…)

Over the past few weeks the newscasts have been reporting on the illnesses and
deaths caused by salmonella tainted tomatoes. Now, the FDA is not sure if it is
the tomatoes. They are reporting the culprit could be a ‘companion’ vegetable,
i.e. salad greens, chives, or salsa ingredients like cilantro, jalapeno peppers,
and on and on. Which means they do not know.
But, not once did I worry about popping a cherry tomato into my mouth or run to
regurgitate the salad I ate at 5:30 when the 6 p.m. news said the lettuce was (more…)
