For Every Sector, Little Earth Day Ideas For A Better World
For everyday people like you and I:
Celebrate Earth Day by doing simple things like checking the air pressure in your car tires. Keeping tires properly inflated can earn you another 10 cents per gallon. If everyone’s tires were properly inflated, we would be saving about 4 million gallons of gasoline every DAY. (more…)

“What’s the use of a fine house if you haven’t got a tolerable planet to put it on?” – Henry David Thoreau
The Energy Department said a white roof can knock 10% to 20% off a building’s electric bill. To that end, it is encouraging anyone replacing or building a roof to take advantage of substantial tax credits and promoting “cool roofs,” which don’t have to be white and could include silver reflective paint or even rooftop gardens. Good news on the environment front! The Home Depot will now accept unbroken
consumer compact fluorescent lightbulbs (CFLs) at all locations. The service
is free and the first such offering made so widely available in this country,
according to the retail chain.
Customers can simply hand over any expired, unbroken CFLs to the clerk behind
the returns desk. The bulbs will go to an environmental management company
responsible for coordinating CFL packaging, transportation and recycling to
maximize safety and ensure environmental compliance. (more…)

landfills. And 30-40% of landfills are construction waste. On the other hand,
pre-fabricated home construction on average have only 2% construction waste.

If every American walked 1 mile to get lunch instead of driving
a car. You would burn 100 calories and avoid the same amount
of CO2 pollution as taking 4.3 million cars off the road.
Do you have a trouble light? If so, change out the incandescent bulb
with a compact fluorescent bulb (CFL). You will use less energy, there will
be less heat and will be safer in tight spaces! A trouble light is
the kind with a hook at the top with a long extension cord for use
under car, in closets, etc.
A new refrigerator uses half the energy than the typical refrigerator
from 1990′s. That means half of the electricity and half of the CO2
pollution.
Hope this helps …….
