It’s 5:35 in the afternoon and for the last 10 hours we have been working on getting the generators up because power has been out since 2 in the morning. Kicking ourselves because the generators have not been prepped since Ike hit us 17 months before. But now they’re working and everybody is thawing out. Except for the noise and regretfully, the noxious exhaust, everything is like normal because home is an RV.

A local news channel always ends the newscast with one of the anchors giving his ignorant 2 cents on whatever His Arrogance deems worthy of his biting critique.

Sure enough, he is now spouting a fact that the snow and ice we are experiencing in East Texas, (which would be normal in Minot, North Dakota), is proof that global warming is nonexistent and made up by followers of Al Gore to make him a billionaire. ??? — WHAT? — Really?!! — Oh good! My middle finger just came back to life. Hope the rest of my digits follow suit, that could be embarrassing.

People please, nobody said only the tropical storms would get worse. ALL STORMS are getting STRONGER and LONGER. The same words that have been said all along. And as for you Mr. Head-In-The-Sand, the Earth is annoyed and like a flea on a dog, she will scratch your pompous ass right off her surface, too bad she will take the rest of us with you.

Mother Nature will right herself, one extreme way or another.

American Wind Projects

The U.S. wind industry is on its way to charting another record-shattering year of
growth. That capacity will generate over 60 billion kWh of electricity in 2009,
enough to serve over 5.5 million American homes and eliminating the burning of

* 30.4 million short tons of coal (enough to fill two 1,000-mile-long coal trains),
* 91 million barrels of oil per year, or
* 560 Bcf of natural gas (about 9% of the natural gas used for electricity generation)

GreenSmith launches Backup Battery for Grid

December 5, 2008 – Exclusive By Emma Ritch, Cleantech Group
Washington D.C.-based GreenSmith Energy Management Systems unveiled technology it says
can solve the peak demand problems of U.S. utilities.

CEO Rodney Smith said the company has designed a battery control and management system
that, when paired with lithium ion battery GreenSmith acquired from a manufacturer
overseas, can store 20 kilowatt-hours at a time and provide between 3,000 and 4,000
full-discharge cycles.

The idea is that utilities could charge the battery when it’s cheaper to produce energy,
such as in the middle of the night, and could discharge that energy onto the grid when
it’s most expensive to produce power. (more…)

I found this at EcoGeek and found it to be another interesting idea.

FloDesign, a Massachusetts based engineering firm, has designed a new wind turbine
that deviates from the standard windmill in a compelling way. Its main feature is a
stationary piece in front that directs wind into the spinning blades. Overall, the
machine looks more like a jet engine than a wind turbine and it packs quite a punch
as well – a FloDesign turbine can generate as much power as a conventional turbine (more…)

Looks like T. Boone and Walmart are in the lets make a deal phase.  Walmart
has announced it would buy 15 percent of the electricity for its Texas
facilities from Duke Energy wind farm.  That 15 percent equates to 226
million kilowatt hours or 18,000 homes could be powered for a year.

Walmart is buying the power and accompanying renewable energy credits
beginning in April from a Duke Energy wind farm in Notrees, Texas. The power
will supply WalMart’s 360 facilities within the competitive Texas grid. (more…)
