Planet Green is now in Greensburg filming 6 new episodes on how the town is
coming along in their effort to be the first green town in America.
They also went on the trip to China for the EcoPartnership with a town hit by the
earthquakes. There were 4 guys from Greensburg that went on that trip. The new mayor
(Bob Dixon) the City Administrator (Steve Hewitt) the Superintendent (Darin Headrick)
and the President of the Chamber (Steve Kirk).
Greensburg was one of seven governmental or business entities of this country signing
separate cooperative agreements with corresponding Chinese agencies as part of the
American-Sino affair. Greensburg’s agreement was a three-year cooperative partnership
with the Chinese city of Mianzhu, a part of Sichuan Province, where a devastating
earthquake last May 12 killed nearly 100,000 Chinese, including around 10,000 school (more…)

Back on the Map!
Ron Shank and Levi Garrett described how scared they were with the weather
that had the tornado whistle blowing. Everyone hit the bunkers and waited
for the storm to pass. Ron’s GM Dealership had some hail damage. The new
church suffered some water damage.
City Council meet to get BNIM’s Master plan approved and the presentation is made.
Council approves the plan with a 5-0 vote. (more…)

As you may have heard, Michael Moore decided to make his new film,
“Slacker Uprising,” available for free to everyone in the United States and
Canada. It is the first time ever that a major feature-length film is debuting
as a free download on the internet — legally. He is doing this for two reasons:
- 1. Next year it will be 20 years since his first film, “Roger & Me,”
- so he’d like to give those of you who’ve supported his work over
- the years a thank you gift in the form of a brand new movie; and (more…)

(This is a long one kids, so grab a cup of coffee and enjoy)
January 2008
Two architect students from the University of Kansas’ Studio 804, drive
4 1/2 hours to determine if Greensburg would be a viable candidate for
their annual project to build a house using architecture as a way of turning
around neighborhoods. They are concerned about committing here because of the
distance and time. Studio 804 is composed of 22 graduate students, all
graduating in May. The students go out and seek funding for the project, but
it seems they seek from the effected community itself, (gee, thanks). Back
at the University a Studio 804 meeting is held with the 22 students and their
professor discussing if Greensburg can really go that green, can the town
pull it off, the project’s not a charity, it needs funding, can the town (more…)

On May 4, 2007 Greensburg, Kansas was ravaged by a tornado, and most of its 1,400
residents were left homeless. Ninety-five percent of the town was destroyed. But
with the hearts of champions and bold spirits, they looked past their pain and
suffering and saw hope in the devastation. With literally a clean slate to work with,
they are committed to rebuilding their town into the ultimate energy-efficient
community. (more…)
