A Message from Michael

Love him or hate him, he makes sense…

Friday, December 12th, 2008
Friends,

They could have given the loan on the condition that the automakers start building
only cars and mass transit that reduce our dependency on oil.

They could have given the loan on the condition that the automakers build cars that
reduce global warming.

They could have given the loan on the condition that the automakers withdraw their
many lawsuits against state governments in their attempts to not comply with our (more…)

…And They Call The Wind Mariah…

Friday, November 21st, 2008

Mariah Power, the manufacturer of the Windspire®, a residential and commercial wind power appliance, was recognized in “Best of What’s New” in the green tech category by Popular Science in its December 2008 issue.

Windspire turbine

Windspire turbine

The Windspire is a 30-foot tall, propeller-free, vertical-axis wind turbine designed for harnessing wind power in urban, suburban and rural locations for both residential and commercial use. Each year, Popular Science reviews thousands of new products and innovations and chooses the top 100 winners across 11 categories for inclusion in its annual “Best of What’s New” issue, the best-read issue of the year. To win, a product or technology must represent a significant step forward in its category.

This award comes on the heels of the company’s announcement of its first volume manufacturing facility in Michigan that will be up and running next year, and the first multi-unit commercial installation of six Windspires at Devon Bank the first “green bank” in the Chicago, Illinois area. (more…)

Another Recycling Tip

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

About 40 percent of the trash you create that is put into the landfills is made up
of paper products.

Alot of us are doing our thing by recycling newspapers and plain paper, but there
is still more we can do including a couple of steps that you may not of thought
about.

30 percent of timber is being used to create paper, it is important to find ways
to conserve what we use by starting at the ATM. Many of us take the receipt from
the ATM, look at the balance, stuff it in our pockets or purses only to rip it up
later and throw it away. Did you know that approximately 8 billion transactions (more…)

The Global Seed Vault

Monday, November 10th, 2008

The Global Seed Vault, opened this year on the far-northern Norwegian island of Spitsbergen, is a backup for the backups. It’s badly needed as around half the seed banks in developing countries are at risk from natural disasters or general instability.

Superman had it right: if you want to keep something safe, build a mountain fortress above the Arctic Circle. That’s the thinking — more or less — behind the Svalbard Global Seed Vault. Almost every nation keeps collections of native seeds so local crops can be replanted in case of an agricultural disaster. The Global Seed Vault, opened this year on the far-northern Norwegian island of Spitsbergen, is a backup for the backups. It’s badly needed — as many as half the seed banks in developing (more…)

Birk Economics – Makes sense

Saturday, September 27th, 2008

I don’t know this Birk guy, but I sure like his logic…  Something for the
Capitalists. Something for the “Spread the wealth Socialists.”  Makes sense to me!

The Birk Economic  Recovery Plan

Hi, Pals!

I’m  against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG.

Instead, Im in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in
a We Deserve It Dividend.

To  make the math simple, lets assume there are 200,000,000
bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+.

Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every man,  woman
and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and  up..

So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.00. (more…)

My Acre is Dancing!

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

Since before Hurricane Ike came to town, we lost electricity.  The generator
has been my close friend for about 6 days.

My generator is a 6500 watt 13 hp JEWEL.  It takes 5 gallons of regular
gas and burns at a rate of 12 – 13 hours at a pop.  If you time it right,
you do not have to run out in the middle of the night to re-fill the tank.

I have learned alot about generators these days due to the parents going
kaput on Sunday night.  Theirs just simple wore out from years of use.  It
blew out the muffler, starting blowing oil, and then found copper windings (more…)
