New Green City: Up From The Green Surface
The entire fleet of New Green City’s heavy-duty maintenance vehicles are hybrid electric/biodiesel and all standard transport vehicles are full electric. One of the avenues to keeping these electric vehicles (EVs) fully charged at all times is HaloIPT , a wireless inductive power transfer system.
Power from the Solar Roadway panels and/or the grid flows into the power supply unit where the now conditioned power is sent to the surface level transmitter pad. As an EV parks or drives over the transmitter pad, it wirelessly transfers energy to the vehicle’s receiver pad (mounted underneath the vehicle), from there to the battery, where recharging is immediate, robust and reliable.
Wireless power is harmless to humans and animals and there is no danger of electric shock. Double isolated and with no cord, no exposed contacts, no moving parts and a magnetic transfer of power, the IPT wireless charging system creates a truly safe environment. The simplicity of no moving parts or live contacts, means wear-and-tear is negligible and mechanisms don’t break. Safely concealed in a weatherproof, tamper-proof and crash-proof housing so it will last.
It is also a source for city income from business/privately owned EVs equipped with the HaloIPT’s receiver pad. With this wireless charging system, an EV becomes part of a power network – which also carries data. So drivers can be updated on traffic conditions as well as available parking spaces before arrival and charging costs, all without ever leaving their EVs.
New Green City tapped Envision Solar to provide their unique solar parking arrays which generates energy, provides plug-in EV charging stations, and shades vehicles from the brutal effects of the sun. Called ‘solar trees’ , they are deployed in all city owned parking lots including Park-N-Ride commuter lots, airports, schools, and stadiums. These aesthetically pleasing, efficient and affordable, solar trees generate clean power during daylight hours when it’s most needed and provide stored energy for safety night lighting.
Envision’s high-tech sun shades not only make the lots cooler and more comfortable, they are cost effective in design, fabrication and construction. Now, not only with space rental (if any), they are revenue generators from the EV charging stations and selling excess power to the grid.
Solar tree parking lots with 50-56 vehicle spaces including EV charging stations, produce 131,051 watts of solar power and reduce 221,000 lbs of Green House Gas (GHG) emissions each year, roughly equivalent to planting 23 acres of pine forest every year. A ‘grove’ of these solar trees ‘planted’ in New Green City’s regional shopping mall generates up to half a megawatt, enough to power about 500 homes.
New Green City’s children have the right to gaze with wonder upon their star filled night sky, even from the heart of downtown. So, with that in mind, and the expertise of Light Kinetics, dark sky-compliant and environmentally sustainable LED light fixtures are installed along all highways, streets, alleys, building/residential outside wall sconces and any locations that requires nighttime lighting.
Dark sky compliant lighting is a worthwhile investment alone but combined with a 20+ year operational life at 12 hours daily usage and a zero planned maintenance over this period, this translates into millions in savings to New Green City and property developers and owners.
