Forced Green Is Now 2

3693545036_9c8d0088e7Forced Green Turns 2 – We Have So Far To Go, Yet We Have Come So Far

There’s a gruesome little saying that goes – if you put a frog in boiling water it will jump out, but if you put it in cold water and slowly heat it until the water boils, the frog will stay there and die. Ergo, if slow and gradual, change goes on for the most part, unnoticed. This is so often used as an analogy to caution for bad changes. But it also serves to make us pause and take time to realize the good changes.

Since today marks Forced Green’s second anniversary, it is a good occasion to note some of the advances in improving the welfare of our planet over the last 2 years, for example:

  • California grants the go ahead on the space-based Solaren project to beam solar energy from space to a receiving station located in Fresno County.

The U.S. government is now seriously engaged in incentives for energy conservation with tax credits for both residential and commercial energy efficient choices; job growth in the sustainable energy sectors, and actively researching and/or testing devices and processes for the elimination on our world’s dependence on fossil fuels.

HappyBirthdayFrogWe still have a long way to go but, we will get there. Because just the same as overcoming an addiction, the first step to healing is realizing you have a problem. And as a people, the light has come on. Awakened to the realization that we have taken advantage of our little world, that this must cease, and it’s our unified responsibility to protect and care for this Earth and her flora and fauna.

If it sounds as if I am optimistic to the point of glee, it’s true, I see the numbers. Because the numbers mean concern. You are the numbers.

Folks that may not be able to do much to alleviate the global situation, but by golly they visit environmental sites and stay informed. So that when life allows, they will be prepared to contribute their talents to a sustainable Earth,

From all around the world, 45,000 strong a month and growing. Face it, you wouldn’t come hang out at Forced Green if you were not truly concerned for our planet – you good citizens of Earth.

And if I may quote from last years anniversary post:
Without you, Forced Green would have never gotten off the ground. So, from the bottom of my heart, Thank YOU, each and every one.

We are – Forced Green – because it’s a small planet, after all!

…and the only one we have!

…….. as the green future unfolds.

“We still have a long way to go but, we will get there.”

These advances are a positive trend and will help, and I wish I were more optimistic. But we are consuming just too much to accomplish what needs to be done. Intense marketing has most of us always looking forward to acquiring more. More gadgets, cars, homes, autos, clothes; and bigger and better each time. Society needs to change from this extravagance to something simpler and healthier.

Hi Grampa Ken … i agree to an extent. However, there are a bunch of folks who are not part of the herd of sheep to acquire the goodies. Plus what is becoming smaller is becoming more recyclable. Yes, we have a long way to go but have hope because we are aware.

  3. Sandy Says:

Dang Grampa you could have at least put out a Happy Birthday wish while stompin’ on the Birthday balloon!

To Linda, I don’t often comment anywhere but, today I will! This site is part of my morning coffee routine. You give me information and inspiration, with bad news you give solutions and hope. There’s not much I can do to contribute to our global situation but I do wash my clothes in cold water now and I am a big pain to my community leaders about recycling avenues.

So celebrate Forced Green! You deserve it, I toast you with my morning joe. This was a great article and if anybody has issues with it, well Miss on you Pister!

Again great job Linda, hang in there, don’t go away, I need you to start my days, show me the green options in my everyday decisions, and give me HOPE for our future.

    Happy Birthday Forced Green !

  21. Earth Friendly Goodies Says:

Congrats, I always find something interesting, informative and inspiring every time I stop by.

In response to Grandpa Ken’s first comment “Intense marketing has most of us always looking forward to acquiring more.” that may be just what saves us in the end – once that intense marketing is directed to more green activities and technologies. While there is plenty to be pessimistic about – there is also so much to be optimistic about and I am reminded about that every time I visit Forced Green.

  23. Keith Davis Says:

    Hi Linda
Barbara S said it all “change the planet one post at a time” – might take a long time but you’ve got to start somewhere.

Perhaps that’s what most of us are trying to do in our own particular niche – bring about change one post at a time.

Great intro story about the frog…. must be able to use that in one of my future speeches.
    .-= Keith Davis´s last blog ..A helping hand… =-.

  24. Linda Says:

Hi Keith … Thank you! We are all trying to get the word out in some fashion and why not start with one post at a time? Feel Free to use the frog story.
