Something Unique!

Travelers on Germany’s A9 Autobahn are likely to do some double-takes this holiday. That giant light isn’t an alien–it’s the world’s largest spinning Christmas star.
Power giant Siemens contracted multimedia artist Michael Pendry for the massive project done in partnership with Munich City Utilities. A crew attached 3,000 tiny, colored LEDs on each of three turbine blades using special adhesives. The lights glow in different patterns as the blades rotate, putting on a show evenings and early mornings through January 6, 2010. Since the turbine is part of a local smart grid system, clean energy is powering the lights.
Hat tips to Jacob Gordon at TreeHugger and Bridgette Meinhold at Inhabitat for bringing this star story to light. Maybe next year power companies here in the States will see their turbines as canvases.
Do you know who the top ten countries are as far as wind farms is concerned?
1. Germany
2. United States
3. Spain
4. India
5. China
6. Denmark
7. Italy
8. France
9. United Kingdom
10. Portugal
Interesting list but what do you think?

Holy cow! One, it is beautiful but I do have a two… which is can you imagine, knowing the speeds the autobahn attains (my brother in law drove it once and it freaked him out how fast everyone was going) to look up and see something like that?!?! Yikes! Keep your eyes on the road LOL!

Very interesting spinner star. I knew that Germany is ahead of us in the energy field. Was surprised at China. though they would be close to the top.

Our Gov. should do more to work on the environment. There is a lot more that could be done. No one wants to spend the money. They want a quick return on their cash.

That sure is unique. With the speeds that they go on the Autobahn, hope everyone is paying attention to the road!

Hi Grampy … It seems to be that way all over. Maybe someone will see that it is time to do something.

Hi Barbara … Probably not! They are so used to doing those high speeds that they are looking around when going down the road….

It’s great that there can be “green” Christmas lights – the consumption of electricity over the holiday period must be outrageous. That’s an interesting list of the top ten countries for wind farms. I’m slightly surprised the UK is on it at all. The lack of space is a real problem.
