Yes global warming is very important and huge problem. I suppose that nothing will change and global warming will increase. I really hope that something will be done with manufacturing processes (make it friendlier to nature), exhaust fumes form cars and so on. I live at the sea and see how the coast is getting smaller and the sea comes closer each year. Sad but fact. Great article, thank you.

Hi John .... No, I am not saying that humans will cease to exist just that the water levels will rise. LOL! First carbon billionaire is a good one!
The Australians are really ahead of the curve by doing things such as ceto.

i would like websites that have given you the info. you are saying that man will cease to exist if our temps go up 5C?

did you know 1\4 of Antarctica is getting warmer while 3\4 of it is getting cooler?

http://www.scientificblogging.com/news_releases/antarctica_warming_or_cooling_yes

and the oceans getting warmer. ...suggest that the oceans have not warmed up at all over the past four or five years.

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=88520025

i do believe in protecting our earth. but i don't believe in the scare tactics used by al gore, who just wants to be the first "carbon billionaire".

by the way, i live what the Australians did with their wave device for generating power.

Hi Diane ... The funny thing is that there are nations around the world who have created green jobs and integrated them into their economies. They have also ensured that they have re-enforced their electric grids with many options. So, all we have left here in the U.S. is to get off our duffs and do it!

Doing nothing is NOT the way for a win-win world.

Okay, putting in my two cents... I think it is a combination of a natural cycle and the abundance of human beings on this planet. If it was strictly nature without humans to wonder, "What the heck is going on?" then it would just happen. Ice ages come and go. However, with billions on the planet doing whatever they like, however they like to do it, without regard to having a finite amount of surface space and air... then you've got that tipping point that will most likely speed up a process that would typically take 1000s of years to evolve. So either we let things go and suffer the results quicker or we intervene (which also freaks me out since humans have a way of doing exactly the wrong thing at the wrong time and make things worse).

However, in the current economic environment who knows? Maybe the governments of the planet will just help push mankind back to a "manageable level." If people can't afford to heat their homes and die of exposure or pay their bills and end up out on the streets, hell maybe "they" are just waiting for the population to balance itself.

Now IF we were able to really and truly and honestly find a way to implement green solutions into the economy - meaning politicians stop all their bickering and in-fighting just to get re-elected and or dominance over the rest of us, and get with the program - AND create jobs in a greener environment THEN maybe we could all live in a win/win world.

Standing back to see if that last remark gets anyone going :)

Brad, well heck I'm just gonna shut this ol' blog down cause you sure convinced me! ---- NOT!

You honestly denigrate Al Gore and actually espouse the 'logic' of this Professor Ian Plimer who says, "Man has been endowed with authority from God to fill the earth and use it up." ---- Have you ever heard of the Borg? You can fill my blog up with 10 pages of his resume and I would still consider this guy one scary lunatic. If we each had a planet to go to I couldn't really care. But we ALL share this one, the only one, no where else to go, so if you think the Good Lord meant that we can mistreat and trash Earth any ol' way we want, then don't be surprised when He shows us just how wrong it is to twist His words around. And that won't be pretty.

As a mother says to her son, "It is not going to kill you to keep your room clean, young man!" ---- But not doing so will kill, maybe not us, but our future children. I guess when that happens, we humans won't have to blame ourselves when we can just chalk it up to the word/will of God.

Hi Linda.

Just so you'll know that Professor Plimer didn't just fall off the pumpkin truck...

"Professor Ian Plimer (School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, The University of Adelaide) is Australia's best-known geologist. He is also Emeritus Professor of
Earth Sciences at the University of Melbourne. He was Professor and Head at the University of Melbourne (1991-2005) and Professor and Head at the University of
Newcastle (1985-1991). He was previously on the staff of the University of New England, the University of New South Wales and Macquarie University. He has published more than 120 scientific papers on geology. This is his seventh book written for the general public, the best known of which are Telling Lies For God (Random House), Milos-Geoligic History (Koan) and A Short History of Planet Earth (ABC Books).

He won the Leopold von Buch Plakette (German Geoligical Society), Clarke Medal (Royal Society of New South Wales), Sir Willis Connolly Medal (Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy), was elected Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering and was elected Honorary Fellow of the
Geological Society of London. In 1995, he was Australian Humanist of the Year and later was awarded the Centenary Medal. He was Managing Editor of Mineralium Deposita, president of the SGA, president of IAGOD and president of the Australian Geoscience Council and sat on the Earth Sciences Committee of the Australian Research Council for many years. He is a regular radio and television broadcaster of science to the general public and has received the Eureka Prize for the promotion of science, the Eureka Prize for A Short History of Planet Earth and the Michael Daley Prize (now a Eureka Prize) for science broadcasting.

Professor Plimer has spent much of his life in the rough and tumble of the zinc-lead-silver mining town of Broken Hill where an integrated interdisciplinary scientific knowledge intertwined with a healthy dose of scepticism and pragmatism are necessary. At Broken Hill, he is Patron of Lifeline and Patron of the Broken Hill Geocentre. He has worked for North Broken Hill Ltd, is director of CBH Resources Ltd, Ivanhoe Australia Ltd. and Kefi Minerals plc and recently had a new Broken Hill mineral, plimerite ZnFe4(PO4)3(OH)3, orthorhombic, named after him in recognition of his contribution to Broken Hill geology. Plimerite is insoluble in alcohol." Heaven and Earth, About The Author

Relative to what God has to say about the planet, I'd encourage a quick look at this link:

As always, Linda, I totally support everyone having their voice. Sound off! Be heard! The day we lose that will be a disastrous one indeed. :)
