A Green New World

From The Past Into The Future

clx1008modular39-deNew World Home is a company that designs and builds historically inspired green manufactured homes. They don’t look like manufactured homes and they certainly don’t resemble any green home you’ve ever seen. But green they are, utilizing environmentally sanctioned products and practices, and ultra-efficient manufacturing methodologies. Effectively bridging the gap between new and old. The end result represents a breakthrough in residential housing allowing New World Home to trade-mark the term – the New Old Green Modular (NOGM) home.

clx1008modular48-deA New Old Green Modular home is one that evokes the spirit of the past of America’s rich architectural heritage while respectfully integrating all of the modern conveniences and amenities, and the highest levels of energy and water efficiencies afforded by the 21st century.

This company believes one of their most gratifying actions is the ability to offer the opportunity to make an investment today for present and future generations, and a New Old Green Modular home is an effective way to begin creating a personal green legacy. Plus, they offer 7 model choices for your green legacy.

Each New Old Green Modular home includes:

  • USGBC LEED for Home certifiable (Silver, Gold, Platinum)
  • Optimal Value Engineering – reduces lumber usage by 15-20%
  • Better than 90% of all lumber sourced from sustainable harvested forests – 3rd party verified
  • Integrated water collection systems used for irrigation – conserves up to 10,000 gallons/year
  • Zero-VOC (volatile organic compounds) adhesives, paints, and finishes
  • Bathrooms are equipped with dual-flush toilets and low-flow faucets and shower heads
  • Tankless Water Heater
  • Each appliance has its own individual hot-and-cold feeds
  • Solar tubes bring light to windowless rooms like the bathroom
  • All lighting is compact fluorescent
  • Kitchen appliances and exterior doors are Energy Star rated

  • Optional alternative energy systems including solar and wind turbine
  • Recycled content products utilized throughout the structure
  • 20-50 year product warranties on many structural elements
  • A minimum 50% energy consumption savings starting from day one

It’s a fact that the modular housing building process is inherently green with an average of only 2% of materials wasted, whereas 30-40% of materials used to construct stick-built homes ends up in landfills.

new_world_homeThe price range for a New Old Green Modular home on average is between $115/sq ft – $180/sq ft depending upon options and includes the foundation, delivered house and finishing kit. This price range does not include energy renewables (e.g., solar, wind turbine), land, site and finishing costs. Typically, a customer can expect to pay $35/sq ft – $55/sq ft for finishing work.
A newly built home can be produced, transported, erected and finished in 60-90 days from the time the production process is initiated.

A New Old Green Modular home is considered ‘green’ along several dimensions. New World Home is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and is actively engaged in The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System, LEED for Homes. New World Home is currently on target to produce the first factory-built house to achieve the USGBC LEED for Homes PLATINUM rating in New York State.

It is a very interesting concept. In Australia we are seeing a lot more green building options and companies are starting to see the commercial benefits from the new green market.

The government also offers rebates on the purchase of solar panels, rain water tanks, insulation and having LPG gas fitted to cars.

I find your blog a great resource, keep up the good work.

The price of solar is low enough now that they should include it into their base home not as an add-on. Then I will be really impressed with their sustainable credentials.

  10. Linda Says:

Hi discount solar … I could not agree more! It should be as standard as a bathtub.
