The U.S. Department of Energy has researched this concept which combines state-of-the-art, energy-efficient construction and appliances with commercially available renewable energy systems that can result in net zero energy consumption. A Zero Energy Home (ZEH), like most houses, is connected to the utility grid, but can be designed and constructed to produce as much energy as it consumes on an annual basis.
While energy prices continue to soar, the Living Zero Home Tour offers participants the opportunity to experience first hand a state-of-the-art energy efficient home to see how neighbors are integrating energy efficiency and other sustainable technologies to reduce their monthly utility bills and help protect the environment.
So, should you be in the area of any of these dates, explore what they have to offer and let us know how it was.
