Vectrix VX-1 Great Green Fun

Laugh Your Way To A Cleaner Earth

slide2graphU.S. greenhouse gas emissions are increasing rapidly: Up 16% between 1990 to 2005. The fastest way for each of us to reduce our carbon footprint is to change our use of vehicles. The best way to do that is a vehicle that uses little or no gasoline. So why not exchange that planet-choker on wheels with a vehicle that will drastically reduce your carbon footprint as well as relieve urban noise and congestion and put a grin on your face at the same time!

Get ready to laugh your way past every gas station with the Vectrix VX-1, a powerful, all-electric, all-highway-capable Personal Electric Vehicle that has a cruising speed of 62 mph (100 km/h), a range of 35-55 miles, can carry two full-sized passengers, and all for about a penny a mile. The VX-1 is currently the only electric scooter allowed on highways and has an acceleration of 0-50 mph (0-80 km/h) in 6.8 seconds. Two-wheel electric vehicles are 2.7 times cleaner than gas-powered motorcycles and scooters and 10 times cleaner than gas-powered cars. By replacing one car 70% of the time with a Vectrix, a household can reduce CO2 emission by five tons a year.

police_bikeThe 2009 VX-1 is redesigned version of the Vectrix Personal Electric Vehicle with new graphics, four vibrant colors and new accessories. It is now being used by many law enforcement departments and other fleet operators all over the world: Including the NYPD, the Penn State University Police Department, the Amherst College Police Department, the Glasgow,, Scotland Airport Police, the London AA (Automobile Association) and even a Paris, France Taxi service.

2009_green_bikeIts emissions-free, all-electric technology, low seat height, agile low-speed maneuverability, convenient reverse capability and narrow width allow it to be used on-the-road, on sidewalks and bike paths, and in other low-speed missions. It can even operate indoors, in airports, stadiums and other places a gas-powered vehicle simply can’t go. It’s rapid acceleration and secure, stable low-speed handling makes it an unbeatable combination of motorcycle-like performance and safe, walking-speed usability and does it in a nearly silent, totally sustainable, emissions-free manner.

On the road, the VX-1’s sophisticated, 3.7 Kilowatt/Hour Nickel-Metal-Hydride battery pack delivers a range between 25 and 50 miles, depending on terrain, traffic conditions and speed. And at slower speeds, its range can be even greater. The VX-1 is charged from any ordinary 110-volt wall outlet, using its built-in cord. It takes about 3-5 hours to recharge completely overnight. But just an hour of recharging, during a lunch break for instance, can add 15, 20 or 25 miles to its range, meaning it can be easily recharged at mid-day, or at its destination, and have plenty of range left to complete its mission. Because it is highway legal it does require a motorcycle license to drive. The VX-1 weighs in at 515 pounds with the battery accounting for 180 pounds of that.

For most normal riding, a Vectrix operator uses just one control—the twistgrip throttle—for acceleration and braking. There is no clutch or shifter to operate. This makes learning to ride the VX-1 quick, easy and cost-effective. It also requires less concentration to operate, allowing its rider to devote more attention to the operational situation.

The VX-1 boast of near zero maintenance because it’s built to last. A dollar’s worth of electricity can take the VX-1 over a hundred miles and with a price of around $8,000 USD plus a very nice tax credit for plug-in electric vehicles, makes this an extremely wise purchase. Not to mention no worries with those pesky roller coaster gas prices.

So let this be a lesson to all of us. The road to going green can be a zippity-do-dah, wind in your face, enjoyable adventure! Now get out there and enjoy some fresh air. It’s getting “fresher” every day.

Linda, I personally have a hybrid motorcycle. In the past, I used it everyday to go to work. However, since I’ve already moved away to a new place that much closer with my working place, I rarely use it nowadays…

However, I would consider to buy this motorcycle, if I have the money!

My new Prius will be here this month and I’m super excited. My husband keeps lobbying for a motorcycle saying it’s cheaper, but I don’t know if I can trust him on two wheels. 🙂

  17. Emmanuel Says:

I am surprised that nobody is wondering where the electricity required to charge the Vectrix comes from ! The reduction of noise and pollution in the cities is really the big advantage of electric vehicles. As for carbon footprint, don’t forget that 80% of the electicity is produced from coal or oil in the US. 1 kwh of electricity generates 1kg of CO2 (coal) or 0.8kg (oil). And 1kwh the amount of energy necessary to ride for 10 mile. That’s just a little bit better than a Hybrid Toyota Prius.

  18. Linda Says:

Hi Emmanuel … That is true but both will have to have a plug to charge up the batteries which costs approx. $1.00 to do so.
