Electrifying News

Yesterday, President Barack Obama announced a $2.4 billion program to boost development of plug-in electric vehicles in the U.S., including grants to finance domestic production of auto batteries. Out of that total, $1.5 billion is available for U.S. battery manufacturing and $500 million for related technology, such as electric motors. He said the Department of Energy has now started taking grant proposals from electric-vehicle battery makers.

Here’s a little data on how the market is coming along:

ford-battery-electric-vehicles_2Ford plans to market a battery-electric vehicle by 2011, a plug-in by 2012. No price available.

innovation-envi-specs-chrysler_tcChrysler is building 100 all-electric cars by the end of this year and plans to have four electric models on the road in 2013. Like the Chrysler Town & Country EV. A plan that will certainly remains to be seen.

chevyGeneral Motors has been showing the Volt for a while now and is slated to hit the showrooms in late 2010. Do not know what the price will be.

The President spoke at Southern California Edison‘s Electric Vehicle Technical Center in Pomona, Calif., saying, “We will put 1 million plug-in hybrid vehicles on America’s roads by 2015”.

It can’t get here soon enough for me.

teslaThe Tesla Roadster can be reserved at this time for the 2009 model, expect a 12 month delivery time and a price of around $109,000.00 .

Even though I would not mind having a Tesla Roadster, it is a little toooo pricey for me.

Maybe with the addition of other hybrid cars such as the MDI version(compressed air versus electric), we will have a good selection to choose from when we are ready to buy, along with cutting down on the emissions and dependency on gas.

What do you think of the Automakers models? Would you own one?
