In the western United States over the past few decades, wildfires have/are
burning more area for longer periods of time. Scientists have correlated the
rampant blazes with warmer temperatures and earlier snow melt.

More than 2 trillion tons of land ice in Greenland, Antarctica and Alaska have
melted since 2003.

This summer for the first time in recorded history, there may be no ice on
the North Pole.

Has it’s silver lining………..

Starting in 2007 global investors plowed $148 billion into new wind, solar and
other alternative energy assets, in what the United Nations describes as a “green
energy gold rush”.

Pacific Gas and ELectric signed an agreement with an Australian company to
produce 177 megawatts at a solar-thermal plant in California’s Central Valley.
The project should be on line in 2010.

Experts predicted it would take a decade for them to fully recover. But,
Indonesia’s reefs have bounced back with surprising speed, after 2004’s
deadly tsunami.

A company called Altila has taken the black, brackish, industrial polluted water
pumped deep under the parched earth of the U.S. desert southwest and returned
it with water that is 20% cleaner than tap water.

President-elect Barack Obama creates an energy and environment team to tackle the
challenges of climate change, energy efficiency and the development of cleaner

    So nice to read all the things that are going well. Thanks for listing them so nicely. It is important to think about what has gone wrong, but that only make us angry. If we also see what is going right and what we can do to help fix the problem it gives us more power and we can do something about it.

    Hopefully it’s not too little too late. I use to think our Children and Grandchildren will learn if it’s as bad as predicted but now it looks like things a moving much faster than that.

    To Brian above me; if more people would realize like
    you have, that leaving it to the children to figure
    out if it is as bad as predicted, then it would be too late. It has been left to us to fix the mess and
    we don’t have a moment to lose. It should have started a long time ago, but it didn’t. So, let’s roll up our sleeves, take care of business, and make our children proud of us.
