The Swift Wind Turbine

Courtesy of Cascade Engineering
The Swift Wind Turbine was developed by Renewable Devices in Scotland. With
installations worldwide, this design icon has been quietly generating clean energy
for homeowners, community groups, and commercial customers, for over four years
* Quiet, vibration-free rooftop operation
* Simple installation
* Safe, efficient and autonomous operation
* Visually appealing design
* Sustain, harm neutral design – allowing the Swift to become carbon and energy
positive within four years
* Zoning – operates below maximum noise levels and eliminates the pole fall height
restrictions
The Swift turbine is mounted on an aluminum mast with a minimum blade-roof clearance of
approximately 2 feet. It is usually mounted at the highest point of a roof, in a position
which benefits from maximum prevailing wind, but it will work effectively in almost any
location.
Swift Wind Turbine will be manufactured by Cascade Engineering in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Cascade Engineering will be manufacturing all blades worldwide and will do assembly for all turbines sold in the United States.
Homeowners can knock 20 to 40 percent off their electricity bills with a new wind turbine that can be mounted directly on a building. The seven-foot-wide plastic turbine has a ring around its rotors that diffuses noise and limits vibration; the company claims that the turbine is no louder than a whisper. In windy locations, its power output should be about 2,000 kilowatt-hours a year.
Has anyone seen one of these turbines? Does anyone have one of these installed and if so, how is it working for you?

Hi Kim … Ooops! It costs between $10,000 – $12,000 installed. But they say the price is starting to come down. Still a little expensive for me.

I will be looking into this when I get a house in England hopefully. I was looking for a nice compact one. That looks realy awesome. Good post!

Hi yanjiaren … Let us know how it turns out for ya. This might work out for you!

I think over time, as with all technology, the price will come down. But I was also looking at the state tax incentives, and a lot of states don’t have any. I think that could help as well.
January 9th, 2009 at 11:11 am
Hi Heath … You are correct, not all states have that reduction. But as more folks get into providing themselves power, the states will have to figure out something.

If the price was right for one of these, they could be a huge hit. The biggest key to getting people to buy into renewable energy is how much money it can save them in the long term.

Hi Linda,
Thanks for bringing this wind turbine to my attention. Here on the SW Utah desert, we are looking for the best option to add wind power.
For us to take advantage of both wind and solar power, we have to wait for tax credits or other assistance as our electricity costs (produced by Lake Powell hydro power) are too low to currently be competitive.
I read your blog most every day, and really enjoy the things you’re revealing to us.

Hi Pay to live green … you bet! They just need to come down in price a little further and things could really liven up!

Hi Shari … Thank you for coming by, reading, and commenting. Hopefully, things will start a changing soon so that all folks can get renewable energy at a decent price!

What a great idea. Unfortunately I live in a community with VERY strict CC&Rs. This wouldn’t stand a chance.

Hi Mel … If you could not do a wind turbine, can you do solar panels? I know some CC&R are pretty tight but maybe they would see the green light and change some of them.

Great articles. I would love one of these wind turbines. Waiting for price to come down.

Sinds 1 maart 2009 heeft Swift een vestiging voor Nederland en Belgie. Kijk op http://www.swiftwindmolen.nl. Zie ook de pagina prijzen. Die liggen aanmerkelijk lager dan hierboven genoemd.
April 8th, 2009 at 10:01 pm
Dank opnieuw uitgaan.
Thanks Eef, I will check it out, if the prices have gone down significantly enough since January, I will update right away. Either way, I will keep my eye on prices and when they start trending down, the word will go out…Thanks again.

Hello, I was hoping to hear from someone that has a Swift up and running. I live in the heart of Kansas and I am taking working on a Wind Enery Technology Degree. and would like to put one up. Just need more information on the unit and the reliability and functioning of the unit.

Hi John … I understand your dilemma ! I did a little research and found this site … http://www.wwj.com/Cascade-Engineering-Launches-Sales-Of-Small-Wind-T/3210206
Give them a call and they should be able to tell you about some of their happy customers! Please let me know how it turns out for you.

This is a great thing to have , using wind to generate power, great way of helping the planet out, but wow that is a huge amount to fork out for this, lets just hope that the price does come down.
