Ambrosia for Evergreens
If this seems a little early, some folks do have a tradition of buying their
Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. So……
To prolong the green and beauty of Xmas trees and the freshness of natural evergreen
holiday decorations, mix a batch of this special holiday concoction.
* add 1/4 cup of Miconized Iron (available at garden centers) to
one gallon of hot water
* add 2 cups of light corn syrup
* add 4 tsps of chlorine bleach
This stuff is powerful and can stain carpets, so keep a plastic sheet spread underneath.
Trim an inch off of the tree trunk and add more as it evaporates. Using a
turkey baster would help in reducing spillage.
Your tree and natural evergreen decorations will remain fresh and beautiful right
through the holidays.

I enjoy following your blog. I am always heartened when I find blogs that focus on environmental awareness. We all share this planet and we must protect and preserve. You suggestions for keping Christmas trees fresh is very helpful, but it would be better if we didn’t cut so many trees. Artifical or living trees are wise choices. Hi Marlene … I am surrounded by 40 miles of tree farms that grow nothing but evergreen pines. I am acutely aware of deforestation and the trees we use for Christmas here are no more than 5 years old and are quickly replaced. It is a sustainable resource and is much better for the environment because at the end of its use it is turned into mulch or used as shoreline re-enforcement. Unlike artificial trees which without exception, the plastic and metal they are made from ends up in landfills. Thank you for dropping by!
