IKE has left the City

I’M STILL STANDING, YEAH, YEAH, YEAH!

I would like to let you all know that I am still standing after IKE
came to town.

Ike started hitting us during the early morning hours.  Around 8:20
a.m. lost electricity.  Then the winds and rains started gearing up
for a rockin and rollin day.

There is nothing like trying to crank up a generator (pull start) in
driving rain, 60 mph gusts with flip flops, shorts and a windbreaker
on.  Success is what you can achieve in the most unique of circumstance.
Hercules has nothing on me when fear kicks in the adrenaline.  All of
this just to brew your first cup of coffee.

We survived 75 mph gusts and 60 mph sustained winds.  Rain has been
around 6 inches and will go higher as the evening progresses.

As you have seen on TV, Galveston and Houston got pretty well torn
up.  Here in East Texas, we have lots of trees down, limbs strewn
all over and some flooding.  A couple of tornados cropped up which
makes it even more scary.

Have not been able to venture out to access local damage but we are
not able to get down the road as trees are laying across it.

I know one thing, the tying down of the RV was the only right move to
make.  If it had not been tied down, I would not be writing this.  I
would not recommend riding out a hurricane in an RV.  So don’t do as
I do, do as I say do.  Dumb me…..  Next hurricane season, I will
have better accommodations to ride one out.

The weathermen say that we will have sunshine in the morning.  Thank
you all for the prayers and the good thoughts that were sent this way.
They surely helped.

In the words of Elton John……

I’m still standing, yeah, yeah, yeah!

    Hey Linda,

Glad to hear you’re still standing after your wild ride in your RV! Good thing you had that to hold up in, and you tied it down. What a difference some coffee and a new day can make. Glad you’re O.K.!

Hey Leanne … Thank you my friend, I know there was a couple of times, my heart was in my throat. I thought this rv was gonna jump up and wad up like a piece of paper. But it is really built good.

We have been cleaning up the road today so we
could get out. In one direction, had 5 trees across the road. In the other, 10 trees down. WE knew we were getting close to our neighbor, like drums in a jungle, the saws were going thru the trees so they could be moved. We still have two that we have to drive under but hey, there is an adventure every day.

Looks like we will be out of power for about a week or two. As we were cutting a path down the road, power lines were tangled up in them.

The damage has been extensive around here. Three
towns within 20 miles have no power, water or gas so we are really scrambling to get some water and gas.

We made it and are hangin in there…. generator is working great.

Hey Barbara … Thank you . Our new day came with a northern blowin in , with dry air and temps in the mid 80’s. SOOOOOO, nice. Started cleanup with a smile!

I’m so glad you’re OK!! I was thinking about you as Ike sent us 75 MPH gusts of wind in Central Ohio Sunday night. No torandos here, just high winds. Lots of trees and power lines are down. The siding was ripped off of some of my neigbor’s homes but nothing too bad in my immediate area. The rest of the city, can’t say the same. In fact the university that’s approx 3 miles from my neighborhood is closed until Thursday. Most of the region is out of power, surprizingly I have electrcity.

Our main concern is the electrical outage (slowed because many of Ohio’s power companies sent workers to help out on the coast and had to recall them.) but nothing like what I’ve seen on the news. My thoughts are with you.

Hi Condo … WOW it was that strong coming up there? Then I know we were blessed by getting thru it. Thank you and the devestation is really bad
up here but the Coast is really bad.

Can’t find a generator within 200 miles and water and gas are in short supply. So we are just hangin in there ! Looks like a week before water will be
back. Telephones out for about a week. Electric?
    who knows!

We have just wonderful weather so cleanup is a little easier. LOL yeah for sunshine!
