EPA Releases 2006 Recycling Estimates
According to the EPA (Enviromental Protection Agency), Americans produced 251
million tons of municipal solid waste in 2006. That’s 4.5 pounds a day for every man,
woman, and child in the country. The good news is 82 million tons of that waste was
recycled or composted. Good show people!
The materials recycled in 2006 the EPA estimates as follows:
Aluminum Cans ———- 45.1%
Auto Batteries ——— 99%
Glass Containers ——- 25.3%
Paper and Paperboard — 51.6%
Plastic HDPE Milk
and Water Bottles —– 31%
Plastic Soft Drink
Bottles —— 30.9%
Steel Cans ———— 62.9%
Tires —————- 34.9%
Yard Trimmings ——— 62%
While we wait on the 2007 numbers, all we can do is hope they’re higher. However,
we still have 5 months of 2008 left. Wouldn’t it be cool if this year we doubled
the 2006 numbers?

Hi Barbara … going green is not as bad as folks make it out to be. It is just a little adjustment.

I think these numbers are stronger than I thought they would be. However I really don’t trust what this agency would report.
